Why does the coil burn up when hooking batterie up?

 Hello John:

 There is no Hot Wire to the Coil. Only Ground Wires (2) and the Plug Lead. One Ground has an Eyelet and Grounds to the Bolt that Holds the Coil to the Engine and the Other Ground goes to the Engine Shut Off Connection at the Throttle Control Bracket. It is Used to Ground out the Coil and Shut Off the Engine. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.
