Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): GCV160 Honda Timing Belt Replacement, honda timing belt, honda timing belt replacement

Question
The timing belt on my push mover with a GCV160 Honda motor keeps falling off. There are no distinctive markings to align for timing. It's like trial and error. With the piston at tdc, I keep moving the belt across the teeth on the primary gear until it runs fine. As soon as i get it right, I use the mover for a couple of hours until it falls off again.  Any ideas on this fustrating problem?  Until now, I've always been a firm believer in Honda quality, design and performance. I think Honda struck out on this one.

Don't give up on Honda just yet!  I believe you have a damaged belt!

These belts have cords running thru them, if a couple cords are damaged on one side, you won't know it til the belt loads up- then it distorts and shoots off to the side- try a new belt.
Lemme know how it goes!
