Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): removing drive pulley, propane torch, drive pulley

Question
I am replacing the tecumseh engine on my snapper mower, and i can't figure out how to get the drive pulley and the blade adapter off the old engine. can you tell me how this is done. It seems like a difficult task.

would i be better off to buy new ones?

they have been soaking in wd 40 overnight,
i haven't tried again to get the screw out since i sprayed them. n
does the blade adaper just slide on or is it pressed on some how?
thanks
Allen

Answer
It would be a lot easier to replace them.  Both parts are supposed to slide off but they usually become seized on from rust, dirt and other debris.

Most of the time you have to use a gear puller to remove them.  Since you are replacing the engine, and you don't care about the old engine, you can try heating the blade adapter and pulley with a propane torch.  This will sometimes loosen the parts.

Let me know if you need more help.
