Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman engine wont start when hot--cont., fuel mixture, float valves

OK, I replaced the float valve in the carb and cleaned it good. There were two float valves in the kit: long one with a darker tip and a short one that was plain. The carb did not have a seat. I tried placing the new seat in the hole, but it didn't fit tight like others I'm used to. Also, the float wouldn't mount on the bracket because the valve sat up too high with the seat installed. The valve that came out of the carb was like the long one, so I removed the rubber seat and put things together like the old parts. When I got the engine running, it was rough. When I cut it off, it wouldn't start, like before. Have I missed something? Thanks for your help.

Answer
 Hello Ed:
With the Carb Clean and a New Needle in the Bowl, you need to set the Carb. 1. Turn The High RPM Fuel Mixture and Low RPM Fuel Mixture Screws in until Seated(DO NOT JAM). 2. Now Back out Both Screws 1 1/2 turns. 3. Start the Engine. *Always make sure the Throttle is on High when Starting Engine. Then return to Idle for 2 min Before Operating Equipment*. 4. To Set the High RPM Screw. Override the Governor and Accelerate the Engine. Adjust the High RPM Screw Until Engine Runs Smoothly.*NOTE: Dont Over Speed Engine. Control Engine Speed by Hand with the Governor Control Rod to the Carb. 5. Set the Low RPM Screw so when accelerating from low RPM's to High RPM's there is no Hesitation. Then set idle. *You should have to turn the High RPM Screw In, But not much*.  Hope this Helps

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
