Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stihl 010av oiling problem, oil pump, diaphragm

Question
I have a stihl 010av 2 stroke chainsaw with a 14" bar. The other day I noticed it wasn't oiling the chain as it should so I stopped it and investigated. Eventually I found that the little valve under the diaphragm in the oil pump had become blocked and so cleaned it out. I now have the reverse problem. Oil now seems to pour out much too quickly from the little tube, such that the chain cannot take it away fast enough and it drips out of the bottom of the saw when running, even at tickover. There is a small brass insert pushed into the end of the oiling tube where it emerges to oil the bar, I have found in the past that this needs to be crimped to various degrees to slow down the flow, however, this time no matter how small I make it, the oil just seems to flow out much too fast, about a drip every 2 seconds or so. I have run the saw without the bar and chain to make sure that the oil is not leaking from elsewhere and the only place it is coming from is the little tube as it is supposed to. Have you got any ideas? There doesn't seem to be any form of flow adjustment.

Many thanks

Answer
Hi Robin,

Maybe a reducer that was in the brass insert fell out.  I think the opening needs to be smaller.  If you can't crimp it small enough, I would check with a dealer to look at a new insert and replace it if needed.

Let me know how you make out.
