Dear Sir,
I have a Tecumseh engine  on my John Deere 826 snowblower. I have reviewed the owners manual and the problem solver. The engine does not have any spark and I have checked the wiring connections, coil?, New Spark plug  and points(0.20 gap). The engine ran well when it was parked  last April.
I am baffled on the problem. This is the first time I have been stumped so to speak. What could be my problem?!?~?!?
Thank You for your time~!~ JFK

Did regapping the points work?

A coil tester is the prefered method to check coils but a digital mulitmeter or inexpensive Ohm meter can be used to check for shorts/opens.

Do you have either of these tools?
Let me know.

Dear Eric,
I am an owner of a Ohm Meter and please provide the parameters for performing this test. Thank You!~!!~  JFK

This link has some info on testing coils.  I checked in several repair manuals but did not find any resistance specs.  The site basically has you check for open or short across the primary and secondary coils.

Since you have an ohm meter, I would make sure the points are opening and closing correctly.  There should be a wire coming from the points/condensor that connects to the coil.  Connect one meter lead to ground, a metal part on the engine, and the other to the lead coming from the points/condenser.  Rotate the engine flywheel.  Your meter should go from short, zero ohms to open as the points close and open respectivly; when the points contact the condensor(close) the meter should read zero ohms.  When the points open, do not contact the condeser, the meter should read infinity.

I used this test once to fix a mower.  I replaced the points and condenser but when I replaced the point cover I pinched the wire and ground out the ignition system.  I could not see the pinched wire, but using the meter I noticed the points were esscientlly staying closed all the time.

Let me know if this helps.
