Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda HR214, spark plug wire, oil water

Question
My honda HR214 starts with one crank and seems to run fine. Self propel works great. When i push the lever to engage the blade the motor bogs down and stalls. what could be causing this. Oil, water, dirt?
thank you

Brian

Answer
Hi Brian,

I would first suspect a clog under the deck or something wrapped around the blade shaft.  Remove the spark plug wire and turn the blade while looking and feeling for a problem.  Next, I would check the blade brake (If equipped).   It may be out of adjustment.

Let me know how you make out.
