Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snowblower Carb adjustment, craftsman snowblower, throttle plate

Question
I have a 8 H.P. Craftsman Snowblower, last year i did not drain the fuel from the carb and of course the carb was plugged the next season. I took the carb apart, cleaned it and put in a carb kit. I can get it started and will run almost perfect, but i have to leave the choke on at half. if i reduce it more the engine will stall.
I thinking i don't have the settings right. Can you tell me how to adjust properly.
Thanks Rob
PS. Which screw is the high idle adj screw, the one on the bottom of the bowl or the one on the side of the carb.
Thanks again

Answer
Hi Rob,

The high speed mixture screw (Located on the bottom of the bowl) is initially set at 1&1/2 turns out.  Then adjust it to give good acceleration and top speed.  The low speed mixture screw is set at 3/4 turn out, then adjust to give a smooth idle.  Set the idle speed screw (It limits the throttle plate from closing.) as needed.  If no change, there may still be a clog internally.

Let me know how you make out.
