Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): sears weedeater, weedeater, ohm meter

I have a friend,s weedeater that,s not working. It won,t start. I,m not getting any spark at the plug. I think it,s the coil. can you tell me what it should read with a ohm meter from the plug lead to the other leads on it.

How old is the trimmer?  Most likely it has an electronic coil and resistance is not the best test for these types of coils.

If you have access to the coil, make sure the mounting connections are clean and free of corrosion...this is the coils ground.

If you have a small wire connected to the coil that runs to the shut-off switch, dis-connect the small wire and then assemble the unit with enough parts that you can pull the string and check for spark.
