Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 3in1 Mulching mower, craftsman riding mower, 2 quarts

Have a used Craftsman riding mower (don't know how old)10hp. We are replacing the motion drive belt. Having trouble with the orientation of that large tension spring under the deck. any ideas for getting that sucker back on? Also any guess on oil capacity? Sears model # on mower is 502.251220 (returns on a Murray)

Hi Meredith,

As far as where the spring goes, look for shiny wear spots that would indicate the attachment points.  Use an "S" hook and vise grips to pull and hook it on.
Just slowly fill with oil and check the level as you go, go to the dipstick mark, then note the oil used for next time.  I would guess about 1&1/2 quarts.
