Question -
I have a Murray mower a couple years old. The first year it ran really well, started and ran every time. At the end of last year, it started dying on me in the middle of mowing. I had to remove the air filter to finish mowing. This year, I have the same problem. I cleaned the filter with gas, as Home Depot no longer carries the one I need. It still dies, and even dies now with the filter out. It almost seems like it is not getting enough gas and/or air mixture. Any ideas of what to check?

Thank You

Do you have a float bowl style carburetor?  You can tell because you will have a fuel line.

Let me know.

Answer
Most likely the problem is a dirty carb.

Try draining the tank and then remove the float bowl nut located in the bottom of the carb.  Make sure the holes in the float bowl nut are clean.

If this does not fix the problem you will have to remove, dis-assemble and clean the carb with compressed air and carburetor.

Let me know what happens.
