Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): trouble shoot 8 hp B&S, briggs stratton, throttle cable

Question
Michael  I have an 8hp Briggs & stratton 4 cycle engine model:190402, type:151501, serial #
P-230824, code: 80111012 and it just will not run on it's own, if I spay carb cleaner into the carb it would run. I got it to put on a 1963 craftsman riding tractor. It had been sitting for about 2 years but was serviced before it was put up and did run. I have replaced the spark plug, cleaned the carburetor,(now it drips fuel out of the bottom of the carb.)also replaced the pick-up with an electronic one. when you pull it putts a couple of times but will not run. I checked for spark (its has good solid spark) I also did a compression test and I'am getting 92psi after 3 pulls with no noticeable leak down. Can you tell me what year this engine is, why it won't start and do you have a illistrated drawing of where everything goes particularly the throttle cable assembly and carb linkage.             thanks Bill

Answer
Hi Bill,

Sorry, I don't know what year it is, nor do I have a drawing.  The running problem is most likely a lack of fuel flow.  I would suspect a clogged hole in the carb.  Probe each with a small wire.  Add a rebuild kit with new gaskets if possible.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
