Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): extra wires, craftsman riding mower, 43527

Question
I have a Craftsman riding mower that last year the engine blow up in. I replaced that engine with a new one. The old engine was a Kohler CV15S model 41508 15.5 HP. The new engine is a Kohler CV16S model 43527 16HP. The problem I have is that a wire harness came with the engine. When I connect that harness from the engine to the tractor I have 2 left over wires. Any idea where this wires go? The engine will not start or even turn over. I think they might go to the ignition but not sure.

Answer
Hi Brian,

Sorry for my delay.  It was a busy holiday here.

I don't know.  The wires may be for a safety switch that a newer tractor has.  You could try connecting the wires together, which would simulate a switch making contact.  Otherwise you would need to trace the wiring to see what wires go to the starter and solenoid.

I am swamped with questions and can't give follow up answers until next week.  Sorry.

Good Luck,
Michael
