Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda GC 160 Not Starting, psi power, float bowl

Question
This 5hp motor powers a Karcher 2400 psi power washer, purchased 1 1/2 years ago and hasn't been started in 5-6 months.  It won't even try to start.  The spark plug looks great.  It has a full tank of gas and a clean air filter.  The fuel was not drained when last run 5-6 months ago but ran perfectly then.  I pulled the air filter off and used starter fluid spray in an effort to get it going.  It will start immediately with the starter fluid spray but dies a couple of seconds after I quit spraying.  I'm assuming I have a fuel problem.  Could the fuel filter be clogged?  Or the carb gummed up?  Would it have gummed up this quickly such that it won't try to start at all?

Answer
Depending on where you live fuel can go stale in as little as 30 days.  Most likely the carb is dirty due to the bad fuel.

You can drain the old fuel from the gas tank and then loosen/ remove the float bowl nut on the bottom of the carb to drain the carburetor.

Refill with fresh fuel and try starting.  If it still will not start then the carb will have to be removed, dis-assembled and cleaned.

Let me know what you find.
