Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Go Cart wont start, tecumseh engine, carburator

Question
I have a Streaker Go Cart with a 6.0 hp Tecumseh engine.  When I pull the cord to start the engine, it doesn't even fire.

I have checked the Spark Plugs to make sure that they ignite, no problem there.  The carburator has been completely rebuilt.  It had not been started for about a year.  I drained the gas & replaced with fresh gas.  It has a kill switch.  I have it turned on when I try to start it.  Could it have something to do with the kill switch?

Answer
Hi Kyle,

You will need to determine if the problem is a lack of spark or a lack of fuel flow.  Remove the spark plug, reconnect the wire and lay it against the engine head.  Pull the engine over and watch for spark at the plug's electrode.

If good, then spark or the kill switch is not the problem.  Try to start while squirting fuel or starting fluid into the carb intake.  If it starts, then the carb most likely has dirt, debris, gummed fuel or water inside.  You will need to remove the carb, disassemble it, clean all the small internal openings and blow it out with compressed air.   Probe each and every hole with a small wire.  A carb rebuild kit wouldn't hurt either.

Let me know how you make out.
