Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tecumseh 6.0hp OHV wont start, ariens snowblower, float bowl

Question
Hello Eric, my name is Paul and I have an Ariens snowblower(model no.624) with a Tecumseh 4 cycle OHV 6hp engine.  It started a few days ago, but now it wont start.  I left the choke on full, it started and shut off immediately.  I even tried to change the choke settings, and I got the same response.  The snowblower has new gasoline, and there is plenty of gas in the tank. I tried the electric start and got the same answer.  If there is a number of different possibilities, or just some common problem with these engines, let me know what you think the problem could be.  Thanks Eric.

Answer
Most of the time a carburetor cleaning and a new spark plug will fix this problem; I'd say about 90% of our business is based on carb cleaning.

You may want to try draining the carb float bowl by removing the carb float bowl nut located on the bottom of the carburetor.

If the unit does the same thing after draining the carb bowl then you will have to remove, dis-assemble and clean the carb with carb cleaner and compressed air.

Let me know what you find.
Eric
