Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snapper riding mower wont pull start, snapper riding mower, crankshaft pulley

Question
Michael,  I started my 8 HP Snapper riding mower and went a few rounds and it just slowly died.  I tried to Pull start it and the cord would not pull out, as if frozen.  I have taken the top off the engine and the pull cord itself is OK.  The blades are turning freely as well.  It seems the fly wheel is frozen.  What do I do next?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Billy,

The blades usually turn freely if they are not direct drive to the engine and are driven by a belt.  With the spark plug removed, check the crankshaft pulley and re-check the flywheel for movement.  Is the oil level correct?

Let me know what you find.
Michael
