Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Changing the starter cord, starter rope, wire hook

Hello,
I wanted to ask you if you can tell me how to change my starter rope on my lawn mower. It is a craftsman 6.5 horsepower 21" Rear Discharge model # 917.388521. The engine model # is 123K02-0258-E1.  I'm having problems with the pulley spring I already broke one I had to order a new one.  Tell me how do I insert back the pulley spring in its place and how much rope do I wind up in the wheel before putting it back together?  The first time I put it together I pulled on the rope, but it did not returned itself.  What am I doing wrong?  I bought my lawn mower last year it is practically new still.  This is the first time I do any type of fixing on my own.

Rafael, it very difficult to explane how to repair a rewind with just typing the instructions. The only advice is to wind the spring in the direction of the rope pulling. Wind it tight and back off 1 turn and insert the rope with a thin wire hook. By the way, if it is new as you say, is will be under warranty.....BOL   bob
