Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower engine problem, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
My son's friend over-filled my 1 year old lawnmower with oil, and it almost immediately shut down.  I drained all the oil and replaced with the correct amount, and have cleaned the spark plug, to no avail - it won't start.  It ran fine until this dumb mistake.  Can you suggest anything else I can do short of putting it in the shop?  (Replace air filter, clean carburetor, what?)  The mower has a 6.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  My email address is rusty1149@aol.com
Thanks.

Answer
Remove the spark plug and crank the engine over until all of the oil is out of the cylinder.  Make sure you replace the spark plug too (likely oil fouled).  If the cylinder and intake tract (carb, filter, etc.) are clear of excess oil, the engine should start.  It will likely smoke for a minute and clear up.  Hope this helps.
