my  mower  is  running  slow  there  is  a  lot  of"sparking"  on  the  brushes?
Answer -
Hi Keith,

Some sparking is normal but if you are having running problems the brushes (The 2 carbon bars that contact the center armature.  Where the sparking occurs.) may be worn down.  If the mower is old, repair may not be worth it or you could try to get parts and replace them
Let me know what you decide.
Michael

the  brushes  are  approx.1/2"  in  length  and  seem  to  be  making  good  contact  on  the  armature although  there  was  a  thin  layer  of  carbon  around  the  comm.which  i  have  cleaned  off.i  will  try  your  suggestion  and  replace  the   brushes.
         thanks  for  your  help.

Answer
Hi Keith,

If there is still some length to the carbon on the brushes then thay should be okay.  I thought that maybe they were getting worn down near to the metal ends.

Maybe there is another reason for the lack of speed.  A dry or failing bearing?  Check for free turning.  Dull blades?  Clogged deck?  Extra tall or thick spring grass?
