Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): pull rope spring, safety glasses, spool

How do we go about winding the spring back up and securing it in its housing. This is an older Craftsman mower (approx 20 years old).

Hi Michael,

You hook the end of the spring to the slot in the housing and coil it along the inside of the housing.  Be careful and keep it secure at all times.  Safety glasses are recommended.  When it is in place, attach the other end to the rope spool and insert the spool inside the spring coil.  Recoils come configured differently but the operation is mostly the same.
