Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): starting problem, briggs stratton, hp briggs

Question
I need help!  I have a 18 hp briggs & stratton motor model 422707.  It only allows me to start it once a day. If I shut it off to add gas or just to take a break, it won't restart. I rebuilt the carb and that did not help. I am getting spark and gas in the cyclinders. Once it starts it runs great. Its either flooding or not enough spark. I just don't know.

Answer
Hi Lance,

When it won't start, right then, recheck for good blue hot spark at the plug electrode.  If the spark is good then check fuel flow.  Are the plugs wet and flooded or dry?  If dry, try squirting fuel or starting fluid into the carb intake and try to restart.

Let me know what you find.
