Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Carburetor Primer, tecumseh engine, lawnmower

Question
I have a lawnmower with a 4 hp Tecumseh engine.  The primer no longer appears to work as I can not hear the fuel being drawn by it and the engine takes many pulls to start.  Is there a small fuel passage that needs to be cleared and what is the best way to access the passage. Thanks,  BJF

Answer
Hi Brian,

First, check the primer bulb for holes or tears and replace it if needed.
There is a passage just inside of the bulb area.  If the bulb is good and you want to save it, you will need to remove the carb and get at the passage from the other side if possible.  The best way to clean the small passages in a carb are compressed air or for the really clogged holes, a tiny wire.

Good Luck,
Michael
