Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Throttle for Yardman Walk behind, yardman lawnmower, float bowl

Question
This is a 2001 Yardman lawnmower walkbehind
Everytime we crank it we have to keep pushing the primer to keep it running.  It will not stay cranked when we let go of primer.  It acts like it will but then cuts right off.  It has no problem firing up just will not stay cranked.  Im not sure why this could be but if you could help with this problem it will be greatly appreciated    Thank you Ryan

Answer
Most likely the problem is some debris in the carburetor float bowl.  You can remove the float bowl nut, located on the bottom of the carburetor to drain the float bowl.  DO this somewhere safe as gas will drain out.  You may want to drain the gas tank before removing the nut.

The nut is soft brass, so do not over-tighten the nut when re-installing.

If the engine does the same thing after draining the bowl, then you may have to remove the bowl and/or the entire carburetor and clean.  This always fixes the problem, but I would recommend just removing the bowl nut first.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
