Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine cuts out, engine smoke, oil type

Question
The engine will start, however, when the cutting blades are engaged and a load is placed on the engine smoke pours out of the exhaust and the engine will eventually cut out. Cleaning excess oil from the spark plug will allow the engine to be restarted. There is a large amount of oil to be seen around the carburetor when the air filter is removed.Oil was added prior to starting, however, oil level is within limits. Make = Husqvarna but I do not know the model No: Any ideas?
Thanks

Wynne

Answer
This is the second burning oil question this week...is there a pattern.

What brand and weight of oil are you using?  Generally when oil gets past the rings the engine is overfilled with oil, the wrong oil is used, there is a major internal problem or the valve breather is not working properly.

Usually it is the oil type/weight or a bad valve breather or hose.

Check the valve breather.  I would clean or replace it or any hoses that may be clogged or broke.

Let me know about the oil and valve breather.
Do you have a vaccuum gauge?
