Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Chief Question, true value hardware stores, true value hardware

Question
I recently purchased a used Lawn Chief 420 lawn tractor.  Model # 420A-H

I am having problems locating a couple of parts for this older model tractor.

I need a part resoource for two major parts:

Quill Assembly - the entire casting and belt housing (wheel) needs to be replaced...

Also, I need a starter for the 12 horse motor.... It measures 4 1/4 inches in size.

Any resource you could provide would be consider very helpful..

Thanks for your attention to this matter...

Answer
The starter motor is easy...just go to your local Briggs Dealer or check E-bay.  Most single cylinder, L-head engine starter will bolt right on; just find one that is as long or longer than yours.  Briggs starter length determines the starters torque, that is why a longer starter will work on your engine.

As for the quill, I would check around your local mower shops.  They should be able to get you an after market quill assembly.  True Value hardware stores can also provide the quill, since they are Lawn Chief dealers, but after market are generally less expensive.

Is the quill casting completely busted?
Let me know.
