Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Chief Wiring, true value hardware store, true value hardware

Question
Hello Eric....Thanks for your info.  I've looked every place I can think of to get the wiring diagram, schematic, for this mower.  I just haven't found it.  If you have it or can tell me where to look for it, I would appreciate it.  My son can read it, and it would be helpful to him in this repair job as alot of the wires are melted together.  Thanks for any help you can offer.  Ginger

Hello....I'm looking for a wiring harness for a Lawn Chief riding lawnmower.  Do you have any suggestions as to where to get one?  Model # 18-45F; Service #228973, Date Code 38F, Sequence # 1038F.  I also need the wiring diagram for this mower.

Thanks,

Have you tried your local True Value hardware store?  They are the Lawn Chief dealers.

Is the entire harness bad?

Let me know.

Answer
I would recommend trying the True Value store again.  They used to have parts lists that sorta showed the wiring diagram.  I say sorta because the picture usually just showed the harness, not really the actually wiring schematic.  To give Lawn Chief some credit, none of the other mower manufacutures provide very good schematics either.  Upper end/commericial mower companies provide decent schematics, but then again you also pay $10,000 plus for a commmercial mower.

Like I said, the schematics from the parts lists are very poor.  I have found, and would recommend, using a Chilton or Haynes repair manual as a general schematic diagram.  Either book is fairly cheap, and most major librarys have them...just check one out for the weekend.

I will add a tip for the ignition switch; if you remove the switch and look next to the terminals, they are usually labled G,B,S,L and one other letter I can't remember.  Anyhow, let me know what letters are on your switch and I can provide some knowledge on how to wire it.

I know G is for Ground, S is for start, L is for light, B is for the battery charging circuit/switch power.

G actually goes to the engine shut-off terminal, located on the engine block, near the throttle cable area..you will see a terminal to connect the wire to.

Let me know if this helps or confuses you.
