Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Starter rope on Sears model#917376290, starter rope, pin style

Question
The starter rope on my mower came completely out.  Do I need to replace the entire starter assembly or can I somehow just wind the rope back into the starter?  Also, if you could suggest a place to find the necessary parts I would appreciate it.  I can't seem to locate them.

Answer
Any Tecumseh dealer can assist you with parts or you can use Sears online parts site.  According to your mower model number, the engine model number is 143.966010.  The site did not list seperate starter parts...it list the whole starter.

Check out this site, it tells exactly how to repair your starter.

The site contains several types of starters.  Just check the other pages is your starter is different.  NOTE:  Newer starters use a screw instead of the pin for the pulley retainer.  The screw is much eaiser to work with.  If you have the older pin style I would recommend replacing the whole starter assembly.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
