Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Sputtering snowblower, cub cadet mower, head bolts

Question
Have a 1989 MTD SnowKing snowblower 8hp Tecumseh! I've cleaned the carb twice, including removing the idle mixture port welch plug and blowing out the chambers.Removed fuel tank, new fuel added checked line for blockage. This is my problem, when I happen to move the snowblower to vigurously it wants to stall but then eventually it clears up,lots of black smoke{flooding}.Has new spark plug and I checked float level and float for saturation. But again when I shake the snowblower It wants to stall?    JOE

Answer
Easy fix...get a new engine!

Seriously though, it sounds like it is running rich.  Have you replaced the inlet needle and seat?  This doesn't sound like the solution, but I have had needles stick in older seats.  If you can remove that difficult welch plug then the seat is a piece of cake.

Check the head gasket.  An old Cub Cadet mower I had did a similar odd thing as yours.  I was ready to trash the mower, even though I just spent a bundle purchasing a short block.  Anyhow, a friend was helping me one night and just happened to hold the shop light in the right position and we could actually see tiny bubbles coming out the head near the exhaust valve area.  We just torqued the head bolts to 200 inch pounds and the engine ran great. By the way, Tecumseh head bolt frequently loosen over time.

Let me know what you find.  I'm very curious.
