Snowmobile Repair: change track on artic cat jag 1976, drive shaft, chain tensioner

ok this is going to be my first track change... i took off the 4 bolts to drop the suspension in the track.. now all i have left is the track drive bar and thats the ? i have... how do i go about taking that off to get the track completly off to install a new one?

Hello Ben,

  Well, you are nearly halfway there. The hardest part is next. First, siphon all of the chain case fluid out of the chain case. You will need to open the chain case up. First take the cover off of the case. Next, you will need to loosen the chain tensioner. When the chain is loose, remove the bolt on each sprocket. Once the bolts are off, remove the chain, and two sprockets together. Nest, loosen the three bolts under where the large lower sprocket was. Now, you will need to remove the three bolts on the other side of the sled, that also retain the drive shaft. That is all you should need to do, every thing will drop at this point. You will need to install a new chain case cover gasket at reassembly. They leak when re-used. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
