Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 9 hp tecumseh engine problem, recoil starters, craftsman snow thrower

Question
i have a 2004 craftsman snow thrower
and let my friend use it the other day
he overfilled the crankcase with oil because he thought it was low and now the engine will not turn over(stuck)
i have remove the spark plug and seems there is no oil in there, plug is dry i also drained the oil completely
is there anything i can do to free it up
or just replace the engine ?
                     thanks

Answer
Hello John:

If you Removed the Spark Plug/s and Drained the Oil and the Engine is Still Locked Up, then Check the Recoil Starter and Electric Starter and Make Sure they are Not Locking the Flywheel and Keeping the Engine from Turning. If Both the Elevtric and Recoil Starters are Good and Not Locking the Engine, then Spray a Small Amount of Engine Oil Into the Spark Plug/s Hole/s and then Use a Pipe Wrench on the Crankshaft and Turn the Engine in Reverse Rotation. You May have to Remove the Blower Housing (houses the Recoil Starter) in Order to Turn the Engine Reverse Rotation. Once it will Move in Reverse Rotation, then Try Moving the Crankshaft in the Operating Direction. Once the Engine Turns Freely, then Replace the Spark Plug/s and Try to Start the Engine. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please.
