Snowmobile Repair: 2000 ZL 600 EFI, zl 600 efi, storage garage

Question
I am having a run of bad luck with my ZL.  First ride of this year, I put 2 miles on and it sputter and quit running.  The repair shop said the stater was bad. They replaced the stater.  While picking up the sled, about to load it on my trailer, it quit running again.  Back in the shop, they diagnosed a bad ECU box.  One look at the price of an ECU and I stopped in my tracks.  Does this make sense for both units to go?  I'm in the process of looking for a used ECU.  My storage garage is a little damp, maybe that could contribute to the problem? Thanks in advance for your help. Jeff

Answer
Hello Jeff,

Yes, it is possible for both units to go at the same time. What I find interesting, is that alot of guys are are asking questions this year with regards to trouble with their Cat's ECU going south. The worst part is the outrageous price of an ECU. Other than Ebay, they aren't that easy to find. Sometimes www.alssnowmo.com has them, too. I don't think the damp storage is doing it, considering that snowmobiles pretty much operate for months in damp snow. It could be they are cheaply built and the dampness contributes to this problem. Sorry for the misfortune. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
