Answer
Hello David,

to clean the carbs, you'll have to get the carbs off first. The best way to do this, is to start with unscrewing the round metal cap (cover) on the top of the carb. Next, pull straight up on it, and pull the throttle slide and needle out of the carb. It will of course still have the throttle cable connected to it. Wrap a rap around the needle and throttle to protect them, or they may get damaged. Now, you will need to remove the choke cable and assembly, otherwise known as the enrichers. It is brass and located on the side of the carb. To remove it, just use a wrench to unscrew it. The only left to do is remove the carbs from the rubber mounting flange and try and get it out, with can get irritating. To remove the carbs from the rubber flange, loosen the band with a screw driver and pull the carb back with a twisting motion. Work carefully, as the flanges get torn easy, which will turn into a air leak. With the carb off, turn it upside down. Remove the four screws on the bottom of the float bowl and remove the float bowl. Take the pin out that holds the float arm in place. Remove the float arm. Use a socket to remove the inlet needle seat. Clean the seat and needle thoroughly. make sure that the two round plastic floats move up and down freely on their metal rods. Make certain that the jets are clean too. Using an air compressor is ideal for cleaning jets and inlet needle seats. Clean every thing with carb cleaner. Installing a carb kit from www.denniskirk.com or www.mfgsupply.com would result in the best performance. As for your sisters machine, I would suspect that the spark plugs. This is the best place to start. Also, her carb may need a carb kit if the internal parts are worn. Also, do a compression check. Hope this helps you. Let me know if you run into any trouble, or need any help. Good luck with the sleds! --Arcticatman
