Snowmobile Repair: spark plug caps, plug caps, snowy christmas

Question
This may sound stupid but I've never changed a spark plug cap. The caps on my wifes '95 Indy 500 are very loose. How do I change them? Do they just screw off? What would be the proper replacement caps for that model? Thanks, Dan

Answer
Hello Dan,

That's a good question, because plug caps very in their replacement procedures. In all cases, they do screw off, but it takes some real hard twisting sometimes, and it would be counter-clockwise on all caps. Now, as far as the proper replacement, there are a few options. There are companies offering universal caps, which work quite well, such as KLG's; http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=2068&store=Main&...  .  The other option would be to buy the OEM caps through Ronnie's; http://216.37.204.202/polaris_oem/PolarisSnow.asp?Type=13&A=5&B=20 . I would recommend the OEM caps, they are more dependable. If you go to your dealers, just bring your old cap, and they can get you a new one. Last of all, when you remove your cap, look very closely in the light, and you will see numbers stamped into the cap, and they will be any of the following: LB05E, LB05EZ, TB05EMA, TB05EM, LZFH, LB05F, and LB05FP. If you have the number, you can get caps where ever you prefer, including www.denniskirk.com . Hope this helps you, have a happy, snowy Christmas! Good luck with the Polaris! --Arcticatman
