Snowmobile Repair: 1994 ZR700 left cylinder dead, clutch side, cat dealer

Question
Hi Mr W:
I have a 1994 ZR700 carb.  A couple days ago i was using my sled and it worked fine (with the exception of it "loading up" a couple times when i was doing doughnuts on a lake) when i put it away.  Today i took it out and the left cylinder (clutch side) is not firing.  I replaced the plugs several times, they both seem to be sparking but the left is wet when i take it out.  I switched wires around, i took the left carb off and checked the float.  I have no idea what could be wrong.  A cat dealer mechanic said if one cylinder is running then its not an ignition problem.  I dont know what else to check.  I havent checked compression but pulling the rope, both cylinders feeling pretty much the same.  Help...    Rick

Answer
Hello Rick,

It could be a variety of things that are causing this. I would start with checking the fuel system. It sounds like a stuck inlet needle or clogged jets to me. If, after cleaning the carb, it still won't run, I would suspect the coil or stator. It is possible that a wire broke at the stator, also. You can get a new coil at www.denniskirk.com . Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any help. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
