Snowmobile Repair: old gas damage, brass and metal, best bet

Question
i have been told that the old gas in my hardly ridden v max600 can coat the jets and make it run too lean is there a cleaner that can fix this or do i have to tear the carbs down to clean them?

Answer
Hello Jeff,

Old gas can cause all kind of problems. Your best bet, is to put Sta-bil in the gas every year, and then run the sled for 10 mins or so. If it is running lean, there really isn't any substitute for removing the carbs, and giving them a good cleaning. Even more than the jets, I would pay close attention to the inlet needles. Soak all brass and metal parts that you remove in carb cleaner. If the sleds running fine, it's good to add a little STP, http://www.stp.com/catalog.html   for preventative maintenance .  Hope this helps, let me know if I can help answer any other questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
