Snowmobile Repair: 1995 Arctic Cat Pantera, shell oil, oil injection

Question
Hi,

I have a 1995 Arctic Cat Pantera.  I am getting a lot of blue smoke when the machine idles and it gets much worse when I apply power, but seems to be white when power is applied.  Even at idle it leaves a spot of oil in the garage under the exhaust.  There is also oil over the engine near the base of the cylinder.  Not sure if it is dripping from the exhaust pipe or coming from the cylinder.

I checked and replaced the water temp sensor and air temp sensor with no difference.  When the ignition is on there are no flashing red lights from the ECU.

I was running Shell advanced snowmobile oil and last week drained most of it out and put Arctic cat 50:1 oil in.

Before I tear down the top end do you have any ideas.  There is 6700 miles on the engine and I am not sure if it was ever torn down.

Thanks

Answer
Hello Vijay,

It sounds like you oil injection isn't working right. A tear down wouldn't hurt anything, considering the mileage and that the symptons you are describing can be a leaking center/midle crank seal or really worn rings. I would recomend taking it in to have the injection pump and system checked. If there is Shell oil in the tank, mixed with Cat oil, that isn't too good, the two oils don't mix. Also, if you plugs aren't firing, they won't burn the oil. You might want to put a new set in, if you haven't already. Best of luck to you with the Cat, hope you can get it running right. Let me know if I can answer any other questions you might have. --Arcticatman
