Steering Column Repair: Z71 4x4 wont turn over, test light, good luck

Question
I have a 1994 Z71 4x4 extended cab automatic. When I turn the key the truck will not turn over. I replaced the neutral switch and the electrical ignition switch. The truck still will not turn over.

Answer
Hi Kirk:

Your next step would be to trace the electrical path and find out where the current is stopping.  I wouldn't throw any more parts at it until I knew what failed.  With a test light follow the yellow wire form the ignition switch.  When you hit 'crank', it should light up.  Check it at the ignition switch, then at the neutral switch, then at the stater.  It may change color to purple at the neutral switch, but that is the crank circuit.  Somewhere you will see it light up and somewhere it will not.  If it lights up even at the starter, then your starter is bad.  Otherwise the point at which it changes from lit to not lit is where the failure is.

Good luck
