Steering Column Repair: Steering Column sensor, lever switch, mode button

Question
I have a 2000 silverado with the tow/haul mode button in the gear shift arm.Recently the tow/haul mode came on without me engaging it,and I cannot get it back into regular mode,it won't disengage. Is there a sensor or a part for this I can replace? And if so where is it located? Also will this damage my transmission running in the tow/haul for a period of time?

Answer
Hi Mike:
You can simply disconnect the wire for the shift lever button until you can buy a new lever and replace the one with the broken switch.  the connector for the lever switch is about 4" form the actual pivot of the lever.  You will need to remove the covers to access ti, but it's a simple job

Good luck
