Steering Column Repair: Clicking in my Steering Column/Dashboard Area, dashboard area, hex head

Question
I have a constant clicking sound in the steering column/dashboard area of my 2004 Pontiac Grand Am.  It sounds like a turn signal on speed, and it comes and goes (usually doesn't stop until after I hit the column).  Any ideas as to what it may be and/or how to fix it?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Mark:

You have one of the easier problems.  There is a relay, built into the multifunction switch in your car.  this relay is( or flasher) is the problem but only comes as an assembly...the switch assembly.  This switch consists of both handles on your steering column and is fastened in place with one screw.  You will need to buy a new multiswitch and replace it.
Snap off the upper cover of the column (no bolts are holding it).  Remove the one screw you see in the top of the switch (7mm hex head).  lift off the switch and unplug it.

All done

I hope this helps you
