Steering Column Repair: How to find a short in wiring in steering column, turn signal switch, chevrolet c

Question
I have a 1972 Chevrolet C/10 half-ton pickup that has a short in the turn signals, left and right. I believe it is in the steering column since it does not have tilt, and I have checked all fuses and bulbs. How do I get to where the problem is? I have no manual that shows how to get inside of the steering column. Need help!

Answer
Hi DeWayne:

It would be very unlikely that the short is in the column.  The only thing in there is a turn signal switch and the harness usually doe not rub against anything (especially if it's not tilt).  With that said though, we have recently uploaded some videos on our website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the parts you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the video is for a Chevrolet truck with tilt, the column is very similar to yours.

I hope these videos help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, if you need parts to repair this column simply email us on our "Contact Us / Order Parts" page and we will get back in touch with you personally

Good luck
