Steering Column Repair: Column disassembly, gmc vandura 2500, gmc vandura

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1987 GMC Vandura 2500 that has a bad wiper switch that needs replacing.  There are no screws visible from underneath to remove to separate the covers from the column.
Do you have any removal instructions along with pictures for the column?

The wipers will come on with the switch off intermittently.

Thanks in advance
Dale

ANSWER: Hi Dale:
Most of the time, the problem you have described turns out to be a bad wiper motor.  The relay inside the motor gets dirt in it & activates the wipers without touching the switch.  If however you want to dis-assemble the column, I need to know if it is a tilt or a non-tilt column.  It's easiest if you submit a picture of your column (if you can) & then I can see what style you have and provide instruction on how to take it apart

Thanks
Doug

QUESTION: Hi Doug

It is a tilt column.

Can I get removal instructions for the column and the wiper motor?

Thanks for you help

Dale

Answer
Dale:
I can only give you the column details..that's my specialty...but I would check the motor 1st. I'm 90% sure that's where your problem is.  As far as the column goes, we have recently uploaded some videos on our website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the parts you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the video is for a Chevrolet truck, the column is very similar to yours.

I hope these videos help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, if you need parts to repair this column simply email us on our "Contact Us / Order Parts" page and we will get back in touch with you personally

Good luck

Doug
