Steering Column Repair: 76 el camino nightmare, chevy monte carlo, gm parts


Question
I am restoring a 76 el camino with matching #s 400 block.I am now having problems with the steering column I took out original and my friend found another 1 but no tilt .Now the column it fits but now none of the signals work it dont quite plug in properly to the harness and if it does go in far enuf only the left front signal goes on constantly. plzzzzz this is alot of grief can i make it work by doing it pin by pin or is an adapter out there?
oh btw i think the other steering column is out of and older make chevy monte carlo 71

Hi Tony:

We do not have cataloged information on which switch fits which vehicle, but from my recollection of those years, GM changed the long black connector during that time span.  If I am not mistaken, the older ones were a little smaller, both in width and in length than the newer ones.
They did make an adapter harness to go from one to the other, but we do not stock any of those.
If you have a good GM parts man to work with, have him contact VIP.  They are a vintage parts warehouse that buys up all the old stock from all the car companies when they discontinue manufacturing any specific part.
