Steering Column Repair: steering column, hot wire, steering column

Question
My 05 durango was stolen and i was told by insurance the steering column was
ripped out for them to hot wire the car. What will this cost for me to have
replaced.

Answer
I thought most Durangos after 2002 had an immobilizer (anti-theft) system direct from the factory.  This would prevent them from getting your truck, but they could still do all the damage to the column trying.
To answer you question, it could cost between $150 and $800 depending on the design, the damage and if it has anti-theft or not.  If you have a large gray-headed key to start the truck, you have anti-theft.  If your key has a thin black head, you don't.
