Steering Column Repair: removing the turn signal lever, digital cruise, wiper switch

Question
QUESTION: I have a column that came of of either a 93 or 94 S-10 Blazer. It is a tilt column and have wipers with delay on the stalk.  Is this a pull out lever or do I need to remove the lock plate in order to replace the lever?

Thanks for your help,
Andy

ANSWER: Hi Andy:
The Blazer uses a pull-out cruise control lever until 1995.  You will need to rotate the handle while pulling gently and it will come out of the wiper switch which is mounted inside the upper lock cover (bowl).  If you are fixing the wipers, you will need to disassemble the upper portion of the column to gain access to replace the wiper switch (that part is inside the column).  If you are replacing the cruise control switch, the stalk is the part you need and it does pull out as I described above.

If it's the wipers that are giving you a problem, make sure it's a bad switch.  Most often it's in the motor and not the switch

QUESTION: I'm installing Dakota Digital cruise control (column is going into a 39 chevy)and need to install a new lever since I won't be using the factory wiper switch so I'm assuming then that I will have to remove the lock plate to complete removal of the  factory wiper switch, correct?

Answer
Andy:
I don't know what a "Dakota Digital cruise control is", so I am at a loss as to what you are attempting to do.  If all you need to do is replace the lever, then you can pull out the old one from the wiper switch leaving a hole (the wiper switch hole) and insert the new one.
If you need to remove the wiper switch completely, then yes, you need to remove the lock plate and much, much more to accomplish that.
