Steering Column Repair: 1992 Buick LeSabre steering column, gm cars, model gm

Question
I replaced the steering column and now the engine won't turn over and I get a flashing  "security" light on the dash.

Answer
ok, this car has a VATS system (Vehicle Anti-Theft System) this was equipped in many 90's model gm cars. You need to transfer the lock and key out of your old column, you don't have to transfer the wire that hooks to it on the inside of the column, instead, once you pull the switch out, there is a ring around it, slide it back and then snap the butterfly off of the lock itself (make sure the key is out or you'll break the key in half)then just re-install your old lock.  Another alternative is to go to a locksmith and get him to read the chip on your OLD key, then use that value chip and cut a new key with the same cut as the key that came with the new column. Then your car will start.
