Steering Column Repair: 89 buick century steering column, cutlass ciera, pontiac 6000

Question
I have an 89 buick century. It is so loose, that when I try to turn, sometimes it puts itself into another gear. Should I replace it or get it tightened or what? And if I do need to replace it, where do I go to get it? Most of the places i looked said that they don't have it.

Answer
The reason for the unavailability of that column is because it can only come out of 1989, or 1990 century, celebrity, cutlass ciera or pontiac 6000. Try car-part.com that will hook you up with local yards, maybe you can find one that way. You can get it tightened up fairly cheep, I usually charge $75 to do that for my customers, alot of older mechanics are more familiar with those than younger ones, so just be careful when choosing a shop to fix it, steering columns are very tricky whether you're changing the whole column or fixing the old one. Good luck and please let me know if I can help you further
