Steering Column Repair: 1972 Chevelle lock cylinder, turn signal switch, 72 chevelle

Question
Mr Cooney, I am having trouble replacing my lock cylinder on my '72 Chevelle. I simply cannot get to the lock cylinder to take it out and replace it. I can get the actual steering wheel off, and the big nut in the middle.. but then after that, theres nothing else to unscrew/unbolt, so I cannot go any further. By the way, i dont have a tilt wheel.

Answer
Hello Mr Hayes,
There will be a tiny slot or hole in which you can push the latching mechanism. I believe the key must be in the run position to allow you to depress the lock tab easily. I don't have a picture of the hole, but if you look where your lock goes into the column, toward the lower end opposite the key, you should be able to locate it. You may even remove the 3 screws holding the turn signal switch in place to get a better look at it.

I hope that helps.
Have a great day!
