Steering Column Repair: I GAVE YOU THE WRONG E-MAIL, e mail address, turn signal switch

Question
I HAVE A 1993 GMC VAN 2500 WITH TILT WHEEL. THE SECTOR SHAFT HAS BROKEN ON IT. I HAVE THE UNIT TORN DOWN WITH THE TOP BOWL REMOVED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE GONE THIS FAR IN A COLUMN. I SEE THE SECTOR SHAFT AND GEAR. I DONT KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE GEAR SO I CAN GET THE SECTOR SHAFT OUT. IT LOOKS LIKE THE SHAFT ON THE END OR THE GEAR IS PING OR SMASHED ON THE SHAFT FROM THE FACTORY. DO I HAVE TO GRIND THE END OFF TO REMOVE THE GEAR. DOES THE SECTOR SHAFT COME OUT THE TOP AFTER REMOVING THE GEAR, OR THE BOTTOM. ALSO WHERE THE SECTOR SHAFT CONNECTS TO THE ROD IT LOOKS LIKE A PIN OR BRAD. HOW IS THE BEST WAY TO REMOVE IT ALSO. I THINK I CAN DO THIS MYSELF SINCE I AM THIS FAR IN THE COLUMN. CAN YOUR GIVE ME ANY HELP, PICTURES. ALL HELP WOULD BE GREATFUL. DO I HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALER TO GET THESE PARTS OR IS THERE AN AFTER MARKET. I SENT YOU A E-MAIL 1 DAY EARLYER, BUT GAVE YOU MY OLD E-MAIL ADDRESS. IT IS NO LONGER ANY GOOD. SORRY FOR THAT. ABOVE E-MAIL IS CORRECT, THATS AGAIN

Answer
Hello Doug,
I removed the other question. In regards to your question, the sector gear will come off. Some are simply pressed on and others have a small pin holding it in place. You can remove the pin with a tiny punch. Once the pin is out you are ready to slide the gear off. I usually take out the ignition lock assembly (one screw behind the turn signal switch, near ignition lock hole lower center), this makes it a little easier to position the gear and sector for removal.

Here are some pictures. The first is a simple diagram of the mechanisms. The second is the location of the keylock retaining screw.

I hope those are of help to you.
