Steering Column Repair: 1971 chev chyenn truck nontilt column shift, column shift, shift lever

After being loose and worn out, the shift lever is froze in park.I checked the linkage to the trans,still looks good.Ive taken off the steering wheel,separated the the first section w/ the blinker,bearings and hub.there are three what look like thin cables or wires attached to the backside of the assembly and I dont want to break them,at this point I can go no farther till I know what these are and how to disconnect them.Then it would be great if I could find a schematic of how everything is supposed to look to help me correct the problem. Ahead of time,thanx,for your time and help..

I can't picture what you are seeing and describing.  Can you either post a picture here or send one to my email address showing me the parts in question.  Once I see it I'm sure I can help you get it apart without doing any damage.
